SAP is offering maintenance support for SAP ERP until the end of 2027 with an optional extended maintenance up to 2030. Part of this strategy is that new functionalities and innovations are only available on SAP S/4HANA. As a result, more and more customers are considering or are already migrating their SAP ERP system to SAP S/4HANA.
There are three scenarios to transform your system to SAP S/4HANA. There is the new implementation or greenfield scenario in which SAP is re-implemented, the conversion or brownfield scenario in which an existing system is converted and the landscape transformation or selective data transition scenario in which several SAP or non-SAP systems are transformed in a new SAP S/4HANA system.
I recommend dividing the conversion scenario in four phases (see figure); the preparation, the conversion on the sandbox, the conversion of the productive landscape, the post-conversion activities, and hyper-care support after the go live.
